چکیده
Bayesian decision theory is a mathematical framework that models reasoning and decision-making under uncertainty. Around 1990, perceptual psychologists began constructing detailed Bayesian models of perception. 1 This research program has proved enormously fruitful. As two leading perceptual psychologists put it, “Bayesian concepts are transforming perception research by providing a rigorous mathematical framework for representing the physical and statistical properties of the environment, describing the tasks that perceptual systems are trying to perform, and deriving appropriate computational theories of how to perform those tasks” (Geisler and Kersten, 2002, p. 508). To understand perception, one must acquire detailed knowledge of Bayesian perceptual psychology. Or so I hope to convince you. §§1-2 introduce the Bayesian approach. §§3-8 highlight its philosophical significance.

An Introduction to Evidential Reasoning for Decision Making under Uncertainty: Bayesian and Belief Functions Perspectives
The main purpose of this article is to introduce the evidential reasoning approach, a research methodology, for decision making under uncertainty. Bayesian framework and Dempster-Shafer theory of belief functions are used to model uncertainties in the decision problem. We first introduce the basics of the DS theory and then discuss the evidential reasoning approach and related concepts. Next, w...
متن کاملThe Effects of the CEO’s Perceptual Bias in Economic Decision-Making and Judgment on the Capabilities of the Financial Reporting Quality
The current research sets out to identify and scrutinize the impact of the CEO’s perceptual biases in judgment and economic decision-making on the reporting quality of the firms listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. Adopting a mixed method, the present study first seeks to detect the components and indices of CEO’s perceptual biases via critical appraisal and with the special participation of 10...
متن کاملType-2 fuzzy set extension of DEMATEL method combined with perceptual computing for decision making
Most decision making methods used to evaluate a system or demonstrate the weak and strength points are based on fuzzy sets and evaluate the criteria with words that are modeled with fuzzy sets. The ambiguity and vagueness of the words and different perceptions of a word are not considered in these methods. For this reason, the decision making methods that consider the perceptions of decision...
متن کاملBayesian probability
This document introduces the foundations of Bayesian probability theory. The emphasis is on understanding why Bayesian probability theory works, and on realizing that the theory relies, on the one hand, on a very limited number of fundamental properties for information processing, and, on the other hand, on a number of application-dependent and arbitrary choices for decision making. 1 What is B...
متن کاملbelief function and the transferable belief model
Beliefs are the result of uncertainty. Sometimes uncertainty is because of a random process and sometimes the result of lack of information. In the past, the only solution in situations of uncertainty has been the probability theory. But the past few decades, various theories of other variables and systems are put forward for the systems with no adequate and accurate information. One of these a...
